Want to hear a "logic problem?" OK.
If a new mother wanted to be a good blogger and update her friends and loved ones with information about her baby girl, but didn't want to actually take away time from said baby girl, but the mother really did have lots of great stuff to tell people about her, but didn't really have the time to sit down and type that blog post.......you get the idea!
So, Baby Riley is technically closer to 3 months than she is to 2 months, but whatever. Between going back to work AND still trying to meet all the demands (and joys!) of having an infant, well, there just has NOT been any time to blog about it all. And now (dammit!), I'm struggling to remember everything that I would have wanted to report for the two-month-post. Oh well.....I'd rather have taken the time to LIVE it and LOVE it, than to stop and write about it. :-)
Here's what I can remember.
We had another visit to the doctor for her two month checkup. I'm happy to report that all was good! She weighed in at 10.5 pounds and was 22.5 inches long. That put her just slightly above the 50th percentile for weight and at about the 75th percentile for height. The doctor was pleased with her growth and we talked about how she was doing better since we switched her to the formula made to deal with "fussiness and gas." And then....*sigh*.....she had to have her first round of shots. I was really dreading this, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. The nurse at our office is really fantastic - she had everything ready so she could do it all really fast and had the ba.nd-aids all lined up, stuck to her shirt and ready to go! H snuggled down with Baby Riley while she "got shot" and I stood to the side taking pictures - but I did NOT CRY!! Yay. Riley cried from pain for about a minute or so. Then she calmed down a bit, but proceeded to cry for another 15 minutes because she was so MAD! Guess she got her Mama's temperment.
(Incidentally, I also weighed her myself just the other day and she weighed 12 POUNDS! Wow!)
OK, what else....? I don't know if I've mentioned it in earlier posts or not, but Riley was having some issues with what I called "random fussiness." Sometimes it would be accompanied by lots of grunting, straining and red-faced-ness. It wasn't constipation and after a few phone calls to the doctor's office, we decided to switch her formula to En.famil's "Gen.tle Ease," which is for fussy and gassy babies. After a week or so, I could really tell a difference. She seemed much happier and was definitely less fussy! Just in the last couple of weeks, she has developed some similar symptoms, but I think this time it IS constipation. So....I made another call to the doctor's office the other day and we are going to try the old-fashioned K.aro syrup remedy. If that doesn't work, then it's on to the prune juice remedy! I guess our mothers and grandmothers really DID know what they were doing! (haha, only kidding!)
As always, Riley continues to become more alert and aware of her surroundings every day. She discovered her hands sometime during her second month and now she CANNOT seem to keep them out of her mouth! She also loves looking at her toys - we have infant toys hanging on her bouncy seat and on the handle of her carseat. She will just stare at them forever sometimes. She started to reach for them, but she hasn't quite been successful at grabbing them yet. She HAS, however, become successful at grabbing any fabric that is nearby. She regularly yanks her clothes or her burp cloth up to her mouth. I'm hoping that her next big accomplishment will be rolling over....but, honestly, there hasn't been much progress on that front just yet.
Her personality is really starting to show more and more! She is such a happy girl - especially first thing after waking up (weird, I know). In the mornings, she LOVES to talk and sing. Her fussiest times are usually when she's tired (already fighting sleep, I'm afraid), but it never fails that, when she wakes up, she's ready for lots of smiles and conversation! Oh, and she finally enjoys her baths instead of screaming through the entire thing! Yay!
(this picture is supposed to be sideways.....don't know how to fix it on blogger.....)
OK, I guess that's all I can think of for now! Maybe I won't be so late with her Three Month post (and that's in only another 9 days, come to think of it!), but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you! :-)
Here is her "official" two month old picture. There is a two month video, too....but stupid Blogger is being stupid, so I can't get it to upload. Oh well!
